So today, I want to talk about all of the different reasons why we eat when we're not hungry! Eating when we're not hungry once in a while, isn't so bad, but when it becomes something we're doing every day or every week, it can add up! Even people who eat really nourishing foods can over eat and gain weight. So it's important to talk about our mindset and emotions when it comes to food. Since you might be eating perfectly and yet still over eating! Next week I'll talk about what happens if we are not eating ENOUGH.Read More
So you might think, who cares about changing my mindset when it comes to food, all you need to do is "eat healthy" or "eat perfectly for a few weeks". My answer to that is that your mindset is everything! What if you could naturally without even trying consistently stay pretty close to eating perfectly instead "eating perfectly" and then slowly or quickly slipping back into old habits until you feel awful again? What if fried food, fast foods, and things that make you sick didn't even taste good to you anymore?!?! That's where our mindset comes in.Read More
First of all, I just to say when it comes to our bodies and our appearance, we have an enormous amount of pressure from our culture, for some of you even your from your friends and family, to look a certain way. So it's not your fault if you hate your body or the way you look from time to time. But appreciating your body will dramatically change your eating habits.Read More
This answer is yes! It's called body-food choice congruence. Our body food choice congruence is choosing foods that feel good and energize your body. This is the ultimate goal of intuitive eating.Read More
I just finished Gabrielle Bernstein’s course Finally Full, a course all about the connection between spirituality and food. In this short course, she shares a different perspective on how to approach food and it strongly resonated with me.
It has even shifted the way I’ve been approaching food lately. Yes, even as an intuitive eater for years and even as a health coach I’m continuously learning more about myself and what serves me best (so remember there’s not a moment where we stop learning about our bodies and everything is perfect).
I want to share with you what shifted in me and share a few powerful insights that I know will make a difference for you too.
Just a little insight, Gabrielle Bernstein once struggled with alcohol, drug addiction and binge eating. In her course, she talks about how having an unhealthy relationship with food is cutting off our connection to spirit, the universe, our higher selves, or God. It’s cutting off our connection to our intuition, inner guidance or inner wisdom.
Now why is this so important? Having access to your inner guidance connects you to your life’s purpose and it gives you the power to manifest your dreams. Yes, that means calling in the one, getting your dream job, being able to feel happy every day. If that isn’t enough to motivate you, I don’t know what is!
So why does having an unhealthy relationship with food cut off your connection to your intuition?
Obsessing over food (counting calories, points, analyzing our food choices, feeling guilty) is all a cover up. . . it’s just a way to ignore what our inner guidance is really telling us.
Just like obsessing over what you eat, mindlessly eating, emotionally eating, and binge eating are ways of avoiding having to deal with or feel emotions and thoughts that maybe aren’t so pleasant. The thing is those emotions are actually very valuable to you, they are a sign or signal that something is off balance or out of alignment for you.
They are the exact way you need to grow or transform that would leave you with the power to manifest your dreams.
When you find yourself obsessing over food or mindlessly shoving food in your mouth, it’s your opportunity to stop and ask yourself:
What do I REALLY need right now?
Is it comfort, rest, love, relaxation, self-care, a good friend, to talk with someone, to do something fun? Because you know it’s not food. Food has just become the mechanism for controlling yourself when you feel out of control. It’s one thing YOU have complete control over; how much goes in or stays out.
It could be asking yourself, what is happening in my life right now and what am I supposed to do about it?
Maybe you need to start exploring new jobs, making new friends, ending or starting a new relationship. What is your body telling you to do?
Our emotions, changes, or illness in our bodies are an indication that something needs to be paid attention to.
What are you not honoring that your body or heart is telling you to do?
Take a close look at your relationship with food, what is your obsession with food really about? Is it a form of control?
What is the binge or mindless eating really about? Is it because you’re lonely or feel guilty about something?
How can you address that problem powerfully, rather than using food?
More on this in the coming weeks!

Do you ever catch yourself sitting at your desk and realize you're not really breathing (or maybe really shallow quiet breaths)?
Or maybe you're running around all day and you suddenly realized you've been contracting the muscles in your stomach.
Or you've been so focused that someone has actually asked you if you're breathing!
Either way, holding our breath or constantly taking shallow breaths is an indicator that we're in "fight or flight mode" i.e. producing cortisol.
And if you haven't noticed, start paying attention to a few things:Read More

I have a confession: up until a few years ago I was addicted to sugar!
I was super restrictive and meticulous with my diet all in the name of being healthy, but come holiday season I was out of control. I could never just have one serving of anything. Just so you can get a picture of my uncontrollable guilty pleasures:
Sugar is hiding everywhere! This blog post isn't meant to scare you! It's all about upgrading your food choices. Sugar is hiding in a lot of foods that aren't even sweet! Today, I have guest blogger and holistic nutritionist, Amy Krasner, here to talk about hidden sugars! When you know where they are you can save the sugar for the delicious sweet treats rather than wasting them on foods that don't even taste sweet! You might not be able to control things you eat at restaurants, but at least you can at home!

The holidays are rapidly approaching. . . . A time for fun and holiday cheer and grocery stores, office lunch rooms, and parties overflowing with copious amounts of holiday treats and sweets.
Or maybe that’s what it seems like because you can’t seem to keep your cool in the presence of those beautifully decorated, shiny wrapped, cute pinterest-worthy delectables.
Ugh!!! You might find yourself praying on your lucky stars or declaring that this year is the year you don’t gain 10 lbs. over the holidays or overindulge to the point of sickness!Read More
This past weekend I watched the movie "The Secret" and the premise of this book is that our thoughts create our reality, our thoughts dictate our feelings and our feelings dictate our actions which impact our results. This makes it really important that we have power over our thoughts instead of letting them operate on autopilot (i.e. old brain patterns from past experiences).
So how does this relate to food, your body, your self-confidence, and your happiness?? (Since that's what we always discuss here at Hello Beautiful Health).Read More
