We want you to know something.
You are beautiful. Your body is perfect. You are perfect. And there is nothing you need to fix.
Do you believe us with every cell of your being, gorgeous?
Do you know that you are beautiful? Or do you roll your eyes and begin to list off the long list of imperfections?
We get it. The expectations we and society have put upon ourselves to look and be a certain way are challenging to overcome. Personally, we will never forget how hard we were on ourselves in high school - thin never seemed to be thin enough. Then as we got older, the pressures to live a certain lifestyle ensued so we restricted all of the trendy foods until there was almost nothing we could eat. Looking back now we realize we were just trying to make ourselves feel empowered and worthy, but instead we made ourselves feel sick and never good enough.
But today, there is finally a movement that is beginning. From the dove campaigns to the stunning plus-sized lingerie models. We, as a culture, are beginning to understand that we can collectively be a part of the change. We are finally feeling more encouraged to share our real stories, the ones that made us who we are today. There is nothing that inspires us more than being an advocate for this authentic way of being!
In our work we have realized a core principle that we want to share with you: Your body hears everything your mind thinks. Literally. You body is always listening to you and trying to respond the best it can.
It is up to each of us to choose love and empower ourselves with our thoughts. Are you ready to step into your power and begin loving yourself unconditionally?! We are so excited to share these wildly effective strategies with you!
The biological and emotional power our mind has on our bodies:
What it looks like: When you tell yourself certain foods are going to make you sick - your body physically manifests sickness. When you feel stressed and overwhelmed, your body has a hard time digesting food, because it's focusing it's energy towards your brain, muscles, heart and lungs so you can out-run the lion chasing you. Keep in mind your body cannot differentiate between a lion chasing you and a stressful deadline.
This also applies to your uncontrollable eating habits. When you tell yourself you can't have certain foods, those same foods become all you can think about. When you tell yourself you need to stop eating so much food, your body goes into deprivation mode and becomes ravenous.
What to do: Give yourself unconditional permission to eat and become mindful of how foods make YOUR body feel. This is a powerful principle that we teach in our Eat For Love Online Course. It's time to learn how to listen to your body - when, what and how much to eat. When you listen, your body will tell you exactly what it needs and when you do what it asks, you will reach ultimate satisfaction - eliminating your need to overeat. What it looks like: So often we hear women say, "If I could just loose 20 pounds I would feel sexy. If I could just tone my bum more, I would feel confident." The idea is that if they change something about themselves, they will then attain confidence, sex appeal and therefore the job, friends or lover they desire. This programs us to police our body for imperfections. We create an experience like the gold at the end of the rainbow - it always moves away right when you think you're getting close. This shows up in our body language and the way we carry ourselves - slouched shoulders, avoiding eye contact, crossed arms. We walk around feeling contracted and closed.
What to do: "Body confidence does not come from achieving the perfect body, it comes from embracing and loving the one that you already have." This quote says it perfectly! There is NOTHING SEXIER THAN CONFIDENCE. Period. This means that sexiness comes from within. Or in other words, it's time to stand up to your sassy bully! Confidence isn't something you achieve, it's something you decide. In every moment you have the opportunity to choose love over fear. Self-love is just like a muscle - we have to exercise it every day to strengthen it. If you want tips to learn to honor and love your body, check out our post "How to Have A Healthy Body Image".
Your mind is POWERFUL and by becoming aware of this, you can now take the reins back on your life, your body and your eating habits. You get to fill your mind and body with positive, affirming thoughts. You get to choose love over fear in every moment.
It is time for us to begin a movement and the movement begins with you, darling. How on earth are we going to teach our daughters to love their bodies if we don't love ours?
So together, right now, in this moment let's make a pact - to respect our bodies, to love ourselves and to encourage others to do the same by being the example!
