re you turning into your mother?
Well maybe you are and maybe you aren’t, but did you know that you have likely inherited your thoughts about food or your body from your mother or both parents?
You can inherit conversations about money, success, and relationships too.
Now before you go blaming your mom for the negative thinking that crosses your mind when you eat, remember that she likely inherited it from her mother too.
Have you ever really asked yourself why you have the beliefs you have? There are so many things that we deem as the truth or fact but they are really just inherited conversations.
To give you insight into what we mean, here’s an example:
Maybe your mom has always been into fitness and dieting. You constantly hear her scrutinize her body no matter how perfect it is or isn’t. You notice that you find yourself saying the same things about your body and eating the same way OR you do exactly the opposite (Look out rebel)!
Well it’s time for that to stop! Last time we checked those conversations weren’t helping you or your mom!
So how do you get free from these inherited conversations?
These 5 steps:
- Awareness - By understanding that we have inherited these conversations we have a choice about whether we choose to believe them or not. Through awareness you can identify and re-write a new story.
- Action: What conversation about food or your body have you inherited from your mother?
- Action: What conversation about food or your body have you inherited from your mother?
- Compassion - Forgive your mother for her conversation and what she is also dealing with and forgive yourself for speaking to yourself the way you do.
- Action: Apologize to yourself for the things you have said and thought about yourself. (Write down 3 things you can apologize to yourself for).
- Action: Apologize to yourself for the things you have said and thought about yourself. (Write down 3 things you can apologize to yourself for).
- Re-write the story - This is the key to transforming our negative beliefs about our relationship to food and our bodies. Choose to speak a new truth. Your words become your reality.
- Action: What new truth and positive thoughts will you create for yourself?
- Action: What new truth and positive thoughts will you create for yourself?
- Repetition - Constantly re-write the story that you have about your relationship with food or you body by reminding yourself that it is not the truth.
- Action: How will you remind yourself to speak your new truth?
- Action: How will you remind yourself to speak your new truth?
- Acknowledge - Appreciate and acknowledge where you are at this moment. It’s not about one huge breakthrough it’s about the little progressive steps that amount to the final transformation.
- Action: Acknowledge and appreciate where you are right now.
It’s time to change the culture! The words you speak carry power and influence those around you. Whether you realize it or not, people are listening, the little girls, your friends, sisters, and co-workers.
It’s time to stop perpetuating this self-criticism in our communities. Instead encourage each other to love ourselves and our bodies through our words. It’s not about being self-centered or arrogant, it’s not about staying humble or modest, it’s about LOVE.
Pass this along to someone you know and spread the love.
Love,
Hannah & Marisa
