Intuitive Eating Principle #2: Honor your Hunger
I remember picking up the Intuitive Eating book for the first time and thinking.... This can't really work. I truly believed you had to be on a diet in order to maintain your weight. I knew the only times I as able to stay thin was through dieting.... What I didn't realize was that you could actually listen to your body to eat.
I basically was under eating and still hungry or binge and emotional eating. There was never an in between.
Intuitive Eating takes some mindfulness.... It's definitely something you have to think about at first, but eventually it becomes natural and you don't have to think about eating too much anymore. You just stop when you're full.
So how do you honor your hunger? You start by using this scale.
The scale shows you the ideal times to get hungry. You might have to think about what it even feels like to be hungry or what real hunger feels like, but think about when you actually eat versus how hungry you feel.
Often times we wait so long to eat we are somewhere between 0 and 2 on the scale which means that we go into survival and can't stop eating. We're more likely to eat to a 9 or 10 when we start eating when we're 0 to 2.
Sometimes we eat when we're already full. And when we do that it's hard to know when to stop because there isn't a difference between when you started eating to tell you when to stop.
You ideally want to eat at a level of 4 so you never move past a 7 or 8.
This week check in with yourself, at what level of hunger or fullness do you eat and stop eating!
