You know that it really takes something to do big things in life. It takes courage and resilience to create the life of your dreams. We know firsthand that life throws us curve balls. The bigger things you’re up to the bigger the failures, missed expectations, and disappointments you face all of the time. Even in our daily lives with friends, co-workers, in our relationships we can experience missed expectations or failures. It happens to us all of the time! You’re not alone.
Life isn’t perfect, it won’t ever be, but you have a choice to let life’s roadblocks steal your joy!
Life’s disappointments can bring all kinds of emotions sadness, anger, upset, or resignation (i.e. you pretend you don’t care, but you’re secretly just giving up).
Today we want to give you a little activity to keep life’s disappointments from stealing your joy! (It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes)
First, get connected to why you’re really disappointed, upset, or why you consider it a failure.Grab your journal or a piece of paper and write down all of your thoughts, emotions, feelings, about the situation down on paper. Why did it happen? What are you making it mean about yourself? Did you set any unrealistic expectations for yourself?
Second, write down what you could do next time that might have changed the situation, what could you have said, was there a way you wish you would have handled it? Could you have prepared for it? Is there something you can still do?
Third, when you can’t possibly think of anything more to write about. Write down 3 ways that it could have turned out worse than it did.
Last, what did you learn about yourself in this experience and how can you use this experience to help you in the future.
Now remember this little acronym to bring you Joy!
J - Just let it all go. Let your emotions be experienced and don’t hold it it. Write it all down.
O - opportunity. See this as an opportunity to discover something about yourself, how you think, what you you can take forward and what is really important to you.
Y - You are human. Don’t give yourself a hard time. It just keeps you stuck. Move forward to the next.
We know you’re amazing beautiful! Try this out and let us know how it goes the next time something doesn’t go your way! xoxo
