Have you ever believed that you would be happier only if a certain something changed in your life? Like, " Only if I get that promotion will I feel successful," or "Only if I lose 10 pounds will I be happy with myself?" I call these good old thoughts our "if this, then that's."
When we simply live, react, and go through the motions, these thoughts seem never-ending. We undergo the journey of always trying to chase the gold at the end of the rainbow, with the gold always distancing itself from us right before we get there. The bar of what we need before we can be happy will constantly rise and never be attained when we live this way. "If this, then nothing." The power is in the now. The happiness is in the now. By becoming aware of this thought pattern and appreciating this present moment...right now, we become happier regardless "if" anything.
Light attracts light, the law of the universe. And finding gratitude for the little things in life brings in this light.
If you have an optimistic view of your life and choose to find excitement over fear when faced with life’s challenges, you’re more likely to get that raise, shed pounds, find the man of your dreams, and flood your life with good vibes.
Here are some quick and easy methods I use daily to love the life I live everyday:
1. Keep a journal next to your bed and right before you go to sleep write down everything you’re grateful for: the people, the random acts of kindness, your performance at work, the trip you’re looking forward to, the yoga class you made it to, the compliment you received. Anything goes, and everything counts.
2. Set your alarm for 15 minutes earlier than usual and journal. Before your ego gets in the way and while you still have an entire new day ahead of you, journal. Here is a list of journal prompts to get you started.
3. Meditate…or just breathe. Simply close your eyes and focus on your breathe for 5-20 minutes, twice a day. This can be when you wake up, on your lunch break, at your desk, before dinner, before bed. Whenever. Slowing down for just this small moment will flood every cell of your body with calmness, relaxation, and clarity. I can’t think of anything else that can give you greater benefits from just a few minutes a day.
Take action and be powerful!
