Whether you have short hair, long hair, curly, wavy or straight hair, it’s something that people notice when they meet you. It’s one of the things that makes us feel youthful, beautiful, feminine, and healthy. Now I know there are beautiful women who can rock short hair, but I am not one of them!
Here are a few tips from my beauty regimen to keep your hair shimmering, luscious, and sexy! If you want your hair to grow longer, these tips will work for you too! Right now my hair is almost down to my waistline (crazy, I know!). I’ve also included a super simple DIY hair mask that takes less than 5 minutes to whip up and you probably already have everything you need in your pantry right now!
- Take care of your tips! - The number one rule to long hair is that you must condition the ends of your hair. Every time I take a shower, after I’ve washed and conditioned my hair, I apply extra conditioner to the ends of my hair for 3-4 minutes while I shave, wash my face etc. This is key to preventing split ends! Split ends cause tangles and breakage which rip your hair out and keep it from growing longer.
- You have to do more than just trim! - Here’s the deal, I’m like you, I don’t have the time to cut my hair every month, as much as I love getting my haircut. So here is my rule of thumb if you want your hair to grow longer: for every month you go without getting a haircut you should cut an inch off up to four months. So if you go every month cut an inch, every two months cut two inches, three months = 3 inches, more than 3 months, cut 3-4 inches. This is also to prevent split ends (which are the death of long hair!).
- Eat healthy fats and cut the sugar- Yes healthy fats are necessary to having shiny, healthy, and voluminous hair. So that means anything with Omega 3’s (ex. fish, eggs, brussel sprouts, spinach, chia seeds). Don’t forget about avocado, coconut oil, and olive oil.
- Want shine? The answer is coconut oil - You don’t need to go buy some fancy serum to make your hair shine, coconut oil will do the trick just rub a little in your hand and apply it to the tips of your hair after it’s dry.
Lastly, here is a super simple DIY Hair Mask. Try this once a month or if you have more time try it once a week. I love this mask because it smells and works fantastic! Here you go, love:
DIY Hair Mask
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 ½ tablespoons of coconut oil
3 slices of a ripe banana (no more than a quarter of a banana)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (Optional - this is for the smell)
Mix it all together in a cup or a bowl. Make sure all of the banana is completely mashed up so you don’t get chunks of banana stuck in your hair. Apply to your hair while dry and let it soak in for 5-10 minutes. (You can also apply while wet). Then continue with your normal hair washing and conditioning routine! That’s it!
Hope you enjoy it beautiful! xo
