Let me guess...this isn’t the first time you’ve tried to kick the old coffee habit? From time to time you say you’re ready to quit but then your alarm goes off and the only motivation to get out of your cozy, fluffy bed, is that warm, steaming cup of joe. Without your morning caffeine jolt you feel completely out of it and unable to jumpstart your day. The real trouble comes when you find yourself reaching for a second serving (or just an extra large so it doesn't actually feel like two) to get the same kick.
Does this sound familiar? If it does, here are 5 wonderful alternatives that will save you from that mid-afternoon adrenal crash while still giving you a morning dose of steamy deliciousness:
Matcha: Matcha powder has been praised in the health world because it enables you to ingest the entire green tea leaf. This allows you to receive significantly more of the nutritive + antioxidant properties of green tea. You can simply add the powder directly to hot water or you can warm up some of your favorite kind of milk and make a matcha latte. This will give you a sustained morning high while simultaneously giving your body a dose of trace minerals and vitamins A, B-complex, C, E and K!
Maca Latte: Mix a tablespoon of maca powder into a warm cup of your favorite kind of milk. If you want to make it extra delicious, I recommend adding a dash of cinnamon and a touch of honey! This cozy bev will boost your energy, stamina + mood (an excellent perk if you ever wake up on the ‘wrong side of the bed’).
Ginger and Lemon: Lately this has been my go-to! Ginger + lemon are both fantastic at kickstarting your digestive fire and getting your metabolism moving. Slice up fresh ginger + lemon and add them to a mug of hot water. Allow at least 5 minutes of steeping time before you enjoy it to get the most nutritive benefits (the longer you steep, the spicier the ginger flavor will be).
Roasted Dandelion, Chicory + Barley: This is absolutely the closest thing to coffee and is what allowed me to quit coffee successfully. The roasty, nutty flavors give you that same cozy sensation we crave from coffee. Find this instant blend in a health food store in their coffee alternative section.
Single Origin Coffee: If you have tried + tried + just can’t seem to kick coffee out of your life, try sticking to single origin coffees. Single origin coffees are made of pure/unblended beans from a single location. If you live in an area with local roasters, go and inquire about the source and quality of their beans. Bedfellows Roasting Co. is an excellent example of pure coffee done right! Many times low grade coffee can have mycotoxins (mold) in their beans and you’re body will absolutely be able to feel the difference!
